Obviously, whenever I go to Duane Reade I stop in the beauty section, but I always go to the Wet ‘n’ Wild section, because they have crazy colors and a bottle is 99 cents. So I can justify purple with hot pink glitter that I will only wear once.

Tonight though, I picked up one of their Color Icon Eyeshadow Singles in “Nutty.” It jumped out at me on the stand as a very pretty, wearable color, unlike the hot pink and cobalt blue on either side of it. I took it home (for $1.99) and tried it out, and it is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a perfectly taupe with a pretty sheen, but no glitter. It looks very cool, almost purply in the pan, but once you blend it onto the skin, it has gorgeous warm brown undertones.

It’s very close to M.A.C.’s Satin Taupe, which everyone raves about as THE eyeshadow to own. And it’s 1/8th of the price. The only downside to this shadow would be the texture. As is sometimes the case with less expensive shadows, it has a slightly chunkier particle, and might cause some fallout on the cheek. So I would definitely recommend tapping off your brush and patting, not swiping this color on the eye.
Overall, you really can’t beat a gorgeous, everyday taupe for $2.
